The Greenville Electric Utility System (GEUS) seeks a strong and competent accountant who is looking for an opportunity to serve the community within an outstanding public agency to be its next Business Services Director.
GEUS provides electricity, Internet and video services to citizens in and around Greenville and provides customer service and billing for the City of Greenville utility services, which include water, wastewater, and solid waste. The agency became the first municipal electric utility in Texas in 1891 and the first municipal cable and Internet service provider in Texas in 2000. It is a fully integrated electric utility performing all functions from producing and delivering energy to managing customer billing and payments. High-speed Internet and video services are owned and managed in-house. GEUS is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity, Internet, video and customer service to the community.
GEUS is led by General Manager Alicia Hooks and the GEUS Board of Trustees, an autonomous governing board. The Utility has 130 full-time employees and a total fiscal year budget of $105,297,360. The Business Services Director oversees the Business Services Department, a unit of seventeen employees organized into three divisions. The position supports the work of the General Manager by focusing on the establishment, management, and optimization of day-to-day operations in finance, asset management, billing, cashiering, purchasing, warehouse, collections, and risk management.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in accounting is preferrable. Candidates must have seven years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including experience and first-hand knowledge of utility financial management (rate structures, cash management, budgeting, costs, capital assets, and project management). Ten years of experience is preferable. A high proficiency and experience with Excel is required.
Required qualifications (or able to obtain within 18 months of hire) include:
Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) from the GFOAT or Certified Public Finance Officer CPFO from the GFOA of the U.S. & Canada
Preferred qualifications include:
CPA
Completed financial American Public Power Association (APPA) courses
Experience with utility billing software
Proficiency with Tyler incode ERP system software
GEUS is offering a salary range of $155,406-$186,486, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
